This is an exceptional opportunity for PhD candidates to apply deep academic expertise to foundational computing, large-scale infrastructure, and the next-generation technologies that power Google globally. As a PhD Software Engineer with Google, you will be at the forefront of developing and optimising high-performance, resilient systems. You will bring fresh ideas from specialised research areas to solve massive-scale challenges in areas such as AI & Infrastructure, Google Cloud, and ChromeOS. You will work on critical projects that push the boundaries of what is possible, evolving and growing as Google continues to lead the field in technical innovation. Your Responsibilities Develop robust product and system code, applying your specialised research knowledge to real-world applications. Lead or actively participate in technology design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide between available technologies. Diligently review code, ensuring top-notch quality, accuracy, and adherence to best practices and style guidelines. Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues by analysing impacts on hardware, network, and service operations. Contribute to technical documentation and educational content, adapting it based on program updates and user feedback. About You We're looking for versatile engineers who possess a deep foundation in research and are passionate about solving challenging problems in system scalability and performance. Candidates should possess some or all of the following skills and experience: Minimum Qualifications: Currently attending a PhD degree program in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent research-based experience. Experience coding in one or more programming languages including, but not limited to: C++, Python, Java, C, or JavaScript. The ability to communicate effectively in English.
